Silver point removal Dr Tony Druttman OPMI Pico Dental Microscope
We have uploaded a video recorded by Dr Tony Druttman using his Carl Zeiss OPMI Pico dental microscope with the integral HD camera. In terms of the procedure:-
The patient was referred by his GDP for endodontic re-treatment of tooth 16. The pre-operative radiograph showed that it had previously been obtruded with silver points which were short of the working length and there was evidence of apical radiolucencies particularly at the apex of the palatal root.
Access as made through the existing restoration and the core material carefully removed at 10x magnification using the Zeiss Operating Microscope. The silver points were identified and material was removed around them using an Endo Success ultrasonic tip ET 20 driven by a Newtron 5 ultrasonic unit from Satalec/Acteon. Once loosened the silver points were withdrawn and the the case was completed under magnification, using rotary preparation with MTwo NiTi files, irrigating with sodium hypochlorite 5.25% and EDTA 17% and obtruding with a warm vertical compaction technique using gutta percha and ZOE sealer.
The patient was referred back to his GDP for the restoration and will be reviewed six months after completion of the treatment.
