Eastman course presented by Tony Druttman

UCL Eastman Dental Institute
Dental Microscopy: the Synergy between the Operating Microscope and Ultrasonics in Endodontics

Endodontics has benefited greatly from both the operating microscope and ultrasonics. The purpose of this course is to discuss how, why and when to use together these concepts to greatly improve endodontic outcomes in both primary and non-surgical re-treatment cases.

Structure
One day
6.5 hours verifiable CPD.
The day will run approximately 9:30am – 5pm.
Course dates
4 November 2016

Aims and objectives
This course aims to show participants:
•    A brief history of ultrasonics in endodontics
•    The rationale of using ultrasonics in root canal irrigation.
•    The rationale for and use of ultrasonics in active root preparation under the operating microscope
•    The role of ultrasonics in the removal of separated instrument and posts in root canals under the operating microscope
•    The technique of removing root canal obturating materials with the aid of both ultrasonics and the operating microscope

Anticipated outcomes
•    Participants will have an overview of the use of ultrasonics in endodontics
•    They will understand the benefits and limitations of using ultrasonic instruments in endodontics.
•    They will understand how ultrasonic tips are used for different applications.
•    They will understand the techniques and be able to use ultrasonics to actively aid in the preparation of root canals when using an operating microscope.
•    They will understand the techniques and be able to use ultrasonics to remove root filling materials from root canals when using an operating microscope.

The course will consist of lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises using the microscope and ultrasonics.
Tony Druttman is the course leader.
